Happy New Years! Lets start the new year off right and get back in sync with our Spouse.
Marriage is a ride full of ups and downs. There are times when you and your spouse click, and there are times when you’re just out of sync. Being out of sync results in lots of frustration, bickering and a feeling of being distant with your spouse. This happens during an unforeseen life circumstance or sometimes because one of you is stressed.
Feelings of whether you’ve both reached the end of the road or if you’re ever going to get past this obstacle are common for many couples. When a couple is out of sync, everything gets harder. Work gets harder, managing the kids takes its toll and so on.
Getting back in sync is a part of marriage that both of you have to work on. It might not be easy the first couple of times, however, if you keep at it, both of you will discover a rhythm to get back in sync to.
It’s easier said than done as you both need to work to get back on track. It won’t happen on its own. Allowing yourselves to stay in a place where you feel disconnected will risk the health and longevity of your marriage.
Follow these 3 tips to get back in sync with your partner.
1. Think about whether you should let go or take a step back – Be honest with yourself and ask yourself if you’re attempting to control your partner. If you’re on the other end of the spectrum, ask yourself if you’re comfortable with your partner making all the decisions. Would you like a say? Talk to your partner about it.
2. Accept a different point of view – When both of you disagree on something, take a minute to hear your partner from his/her point of view. Sometimes, both of you might be correct.
3. Schedule alone time – There are times when life gets in the way of alone time. Scheduling alone time is key to a long and happy marriage. Meet up after the kids are asleep, turn off all the electronics, grab some coffee and catch up on what’s going on in your lives.
It won’t be easy, but if you both are willing to put in the work, you can get back in sync.
