Today, a large number of couples all over the world resort to divorce as their main solution, when their marriage is in trouble. You might be wondering what God has to say about this practice. After all, as God introduced the concept of marriage, the Bible should have interesting things to say about divorce.
If you go through the Malachi 2:16, it is clear that God doesn’t like divorce at all. By taking a closer look at the scripture, it is clear that God wants marriage to be a commitment for your entire life. One way to look at this is that marriage is the special contract that exists between God, husband, and wife.
The words that come out of your mouth when getting married to your spouse carry a lot of weight under the eyes of God. God goes into detail about why you should be careful while speaking in Deuteronomy 23:23. According to this verse, you will be held accountable for all the careless words, as they came out of your mouth in his presence.
From Matthew 19:6, it is safe to say that God places tremendous value on marriage. As the Lord is responsible for bringing two people together, no one should try to separate them. Marriage has an impact on God’s image in this world, as he is the creator of all living beings.
An exception
However, there is one clause, which allows the husband or the wife to get a divorce. From Matthew 19:9, God only permits one to obtain the divorce certificate, only if the spouse indulges in the act of immorality.
Even in these conditions, it isn’t necessary to get a divorce, as there are other methods such as reconciliation and forgiveness, which are helpful. If the spouse continues to perform immoral acts, God allows the partner to get a divorce.
